This bill removes the postgraduate collaborative practice requirements for Advanced Practice Registered Nurses (APRNs) in Minnesota. Specifically, it repeals a previous statute that mandated nurse practitioners and clinical nurse specialists complete 2,080 hours of practice within a collaborative agreement in a hospital or integrated clinical setting before obtaining full licensure. Under the current law, these nurses were required to work alongside physicians or other advanced practice nurses in a mutually agreed upon plan that designated the scope of collaboration for patient care management. The bill will take effect on August 1, 2025, and will apply to nurses completing postgraduate practice requirements and those submitting licensure applications on or after that date. By eliminating this requirement, the bill appears to reduce barriers to practice for APRNs and potentially increase their ability to provide independent healthcare services.
