AI Summary
This bill creates new sections in Florida Statutes that expand pharmacists' roles and rights across various healthcare programs, including state group insurance, Medicaid, and private health insurance plans. Specifically, the bill allows patients to select an in-network pharmacist for any service within a licensed pharmacist's professional scope, and prohibits insurance plans from denying reimbursement to these pharmacists for services that would be covered if performed by physicians, physician assistants, or advanced practice nurses. Additionally, the bill mandates that licensed pharmacists can be counted toward network adequacy standards for provider access, with a clarification that simply participating in a network's drug benefits does not satisfy this requirement. This legislation effectively recognizes pharmacists as more comprehensive healthcare providers, giving them greater professional standing and ensuring they can be directly selected and fully reimbursed for a broader range of medical services. The provisions will take effect on January 1, 2026, and apply to various types of health insurance plans and programs in Florida.
