This bill modifies the eligibility requirements for the Florida Bright Futures Scholarship Program by adjusting the provisions for students who earn a high school diploma from a non-Florida school. Specifically, the bill expands the existing exception for students whose parents are on military or public service assignment away from Florida by adding a new provision that includes students whose parents have retired from military or public service within 12 months before the student's high school graduation. This change allows such students to still qualify for the scholarship even if they earned their high school diploma outside of Florida, provided they were living with a parent who was on or recently retired from military or public service. The bill aims to provide more flexibility for students whose families have served in military or public service roles, ensuring they are not disadvantaged in accessing the Florida Bright Futures Scholarship. The changes will take effect on July 1, 2025.
