This bill establishes an Aging in Place Task Force within the New York State Office for the Aging to comprehensively study strategies for supporting older adults who wish to remain in their homes and communities as they age. The task force will consist of 14 members, including government officials, legislators, and appointees from various state leadership positions, who will examine critical areas such as infrastructure, transportation, zoning, home care, nutrition programs, fraud protections, medical care options, tax incentives, and private insurance incentives. The members will serve without compensation but will be reimbursed for their expenses, and the Office for the Aging will provide necessary facilities and support. The task force is required to conduct its first meeting within 60 days of the act's effective date and to submit a comprehensive report to the governor and legislative leaders by January 1, 2028. After submitting its report or by December 31, 2028 at the latest, the task force will be dissolved. The legislation aims to develop strategic recommendations to help New York's aging population maintain independence and quality of life in their current living environments.
