This bill creates the Governor's Medal of Service award, which allows the governor to recognize and honor exceptional Texas residents who have made significant contributions to the state through public service or private sector work. Specifically, the award can be given to individuals who have honorably retired from state or local government positions, made extraordinary contributions to Texas residents through private sector work, or served extraordinarily as members of the Texas Legislature. The governor is limited to awarding no more than two of these medals each year. To support the administration of the award, the governor's office is authorized to solicit and accept gifts, grants, and donations from public or private sources to help establish and manage the award. The bill will take effect on September 1, 2025, providing a clear timeline for implementation of this new recognition program.
