This bill creates the Governor's Medal of Service award, a new honor that can be bestowed by the Governor of Texas to recognize exceptional service to the state. The medal can be awarded to a maximum of two recipients annually, and can go to individuals who have: (1) honorably retired from state or local government service, (2) made extraordinary contributions to Texas residents through private sector work, or (3) served extraordinarily as a member of the Texas Legislature. To support the administration of this award, the Governor's office is authorized to solicit and accept gifts, grants, and donations from public or private sources to help establish and manage the award. The bill specifies that the new award program will take effect on September 1, 2025, providing ample time for preparation and implementation of the new recognition program.
