This bill requires the Minnesota commissioner of education, in consultation with health and education commissioners, to develop and disseminate informational materials about type 1 diabetes specifically for parents of children in preschool programs. By October 1, 2025, these materials must be posted online and, starting in the 2025-2026 school year, school districts and charter schools offering preschool programs must provide these materials to parents at least once per school year. The materials must comprehensively cover type 1 diabetes, including a description of the condition, risk factors and warning signs, recommendations for screening if warning signs are present, details about the screening process, and guidance on developing a treatment plan if diagnosed. The bill defines "preschool program" to include school readiness programs, school readiness plus programs, and voluntary prekindergarten programs. The goal is to increase parent awareness and early detection of type 1 diabetes in young children by providing accessible, informative resources through educational institutions.
