This bill requires the Minnesota commissioner of education, in consultation with health and education commissioners, to develop and disseminate comprehensive informational materials about type 1 diabetes specifically targeted to parents of children in preschool programs. By October 1, 2025, these materials must be posted online and must include detailed information such as a description of type 1 diabetes, its risk factors and warning signs, recommendations for screening when warning signs are present, an explanation of the screening process, and guidance on seeking appropriate medical treatment if diagnosed. Starting in the 2025-2026 school year, all school districts and charter schools offering preschool programs (including school readiness, school readiness plus, and voluntary prekindergarten programs) must provide these materials to parents at least once per school year. The goal of the bill is to increase awareness and early detection of type 1 diabetes among young children by ensuring parents have access to clear, informative resources about the condition.
