This bill requires the Board of Registration of Cosmetology and Barbering to provide a standardized warning sign about human trafficking to all cosmetology and hairdressing businesses and schools. The sign, which must be at least 8.5 by 11 inches, will include the National Human Trafficking Hotline number (1-888-373-7888) and a warning that obtaining forced labor is a crime under Massachusetts law. The sign must be displayed in a conspicuous location visible to both employees and the public, and will be available in English, Spanish, Chinese, Vietnamese, and Portuguese, with English covering at least half the sign. The attorney general will approve the sample sign, and the board will consult annually with the attorney general about potentially adding additional languages. The purpose of this bill is to raise awareness about human trafficking and provide a clear resource for potential victims to seek help, leveraging the visibility of hair salons and cosmetology schools as potential points of intervention.
