This bill provides a special pension increase for retired judges who are military veterans with specific service criteria. Specifically, the bill allows judges who: (1) are veterans of the U.S. armed forces, (2) were called to active military duty while serving as a judge and served at least 90 days, (3) retired at age 70 with at least 10 years of continuous judicial service (or resigned after 15 years of service), and (4) are currently receiving a judicial pension, to become eligible for a significant pension enhancement. The enhancement would provide a pension for life at three-quarters of the current annual compensation rate for judges in a similar position at the time of their retirement. For judges who retired with less than 10 years of service but meet the other criteria, they can receive a pension calculated based on the current compensation rate. The state retirement board is required to notify all retired judges about this opportunity within 30 days of the act's effective date, and judges will have 30 days to apply. The retirement board must review and make a determination on each application within 30 days and notify the applicant of the decision within 10 days of that determination.
