This bill amends the existing law regarding fees that coroners can charge for various reports in Pennsylvania. The legislation establishes standardized fees for different types of reports: $500 for an autopsy report (including attachments), $100 for a toxicology report (including attachments), and $100 for an inquisition or coroner's report (including attachments). Importantly, the bill prohibits coroners from charging additional fees for photographs, attachments, or addendums to these reports. The law also creates a separate, more affordable fee structure for next-of-kin and guardians of the deceased, allowing coroners to charge up to $100 for an autopsy report, $50 for a toxicology report, and $50 for an inquisition or coroner's report when requested by a spouse, child, parent, guardian, or sibling of the deceased. Any fees collected must be reported to the county treasurer and used to support coroner training and office expenses. The bill will take effect 60 days after its enactment, providing time for coroner offices to adjust to the new fee structure.
