This bill requires the New York State Department of Transportation to conduct a comprehensive study on the potential completion of State Route 878 (Nassau Expressway) in Nassau and Queens counties. The study must involve multiple stakeholders including local transportation entities, police agencies, government representatives, and other relevant organizations. It will examine historical transportation plans dating back to the 1940s, including works by Robert Moses, and analyze various aspects such as design, safety, entrance and exit ramp configurations, total project cost, construction duration, impact on local traffic patterns, and available federal highway safety funding. The department is authorized to hold hearings as needed and must produce a detailed report within one year, presenting recommendations to the governor, state assembly and senate members representing the affected counties, the Nassau County Executive, Queens Borough President, and Nassau County Legislature. The bill will take effect immediately and automatically expire and be repealed one and a half years after its effective date.
