AI Summary

This bill mandates that every public school in North Carolina must have at least one full-time, permanent school nurse beginning in the 2025-2026 school year. The requirement applies to traditional local school administrative units, charter schools, regional schools, and laboratory schools. To support this initiative, the bill appropriates $95 million in recurring funds from the General Fund to the Department of Public Instruction, specifically to increase the School Health Personnel Allotment. These funds are intended to help schools hire the required nurses and are designed to supplement, not replace, existing funding for school nursing positions. The bill emphasizes that having a dedicated school nurse can positively impact students' health, well-being, and educational success by keeping students healthy and ready to learn. The new requirement will take effect on July 1, 2025, ensuring that all public schools in North Carolina have a full-time nurse for the 2025-2026 academic year.
