This bill provides a specific exception to existing retirement benefit regulations for Marie Glarakis, a former Suffolk County police officer who is currently receiving a performance of duty disability retirement. The bill allows her to change two key aspects of her retirement benefits: first, she can change her designated pension beneficiary (currently James Scandariato), and second, she can modify her retirement option from a "Joint allowance" to a "Single life allowance" (Option 0), which means her pension payments will cease upon her death and no beneficiary will receive continued benefits. To take advantage of this change, Glarakis must submit a request to the state comptroller within six months of the act's effective date.
