This bill requires certain health care providers (specifically physicians, physician's assistants, and specialist's assistants) to disclose detailed information about professional misconduct to current and new patients before providing treatment. The disclosure must include the provider's status with the Office of Professional Misconduct, the length and expiration of any penalties, the cause of disciplinary action, practice restrictions, and contact information for the Office of Professional Misconduct. This mandatory disclosure applies to providers who have been found to have committed serious offenses such as sexual misconduct, drug or alcohol abuse affecting patient care, criminal convictions involving patient harm, or inappropriate prescribing. The provider must obtain a signed acknowledgment from the patient before treatment, and if a patient cancels an appointment after receiving the disclosure, they will not be charged. Providers who fail to comply can be fined up to $2,000, and repeated willful violations may result in license suspension. The bill includes exceptions for emergency medical situations and provides mechanisms for patients to be transferred if they are uncomfortable with a provider who has been found to have committed misconduct. The bill will take effect on January 1, 2026, and applies to all probationary orders issued on or after that date.
