The bill also clarifies that facilities can partner with tax-exempt animal rescue and shelter organizations for these adoptions. The legislation aims to increase accountability and public awareness about the adoption of research animals, ensuring that dogs and cats used in research have opportunities to be rehomed when they are no longer needed for scientific purposes. The bill will go into effect 60 days after becoming law.
