This bill establishes the Alzheimer's Disease and Related Dementias Prevention and Support Program within the Maine Center for Disease Control and Prevention, aiming to educate the public, support early detection and diagnosis, reduce hospitalizations and cognitive decline, and assist with care planning for individuals affected by these conditions. To achieve these goals, the bill creates the Healthy Brain Initiative Council, comprised of various stakeholders including families, healthcare providers, researchers, and advocacy groups, which will examine the needs of those with Alzheimer's and related dementias and make recommendations for improvement. The Council, in collaboration with the Maine Center for Disease Control and Prevention, will develop an Alzheimer's disease and related dementias prevention and support plan, which will be submitted to the Governor and Legislature by December 3, 2025, and updated every five years thereafter, with annual progress reports also to be provided. The bill also acknowledges any existing plans developed by the Maine Center for Disease Control and Prevention as fulfilling the initial plan requirement and allocates a modest amount of funding for the Healthy Brain Initiative Council.
