This bill amends Wisconsin statutes concerning venue, which is the determination of the proper court location for a legal case. Specifically, it creates new provisions to clarify where a defendant is considered to reside or conduct substantial business for venue purposes. The bill states that when deciding if a county is a proper venue, courts should not consider parties who have been added to a lawsuit under specific legal procedures, such as those joined to a civil action or special proceeding, or insurers joined in a similar manner. Furthermore, for the purpose of venue, a corporation, limited liability company (LLC), or other business entity will be considered to reside in the place where it was incorporated or organized, and will only be considered to be doing substantial business in the county where its principal place of business is located.
