This bill allows deputy sheriffs who previously served as police protection or correction officers and are transferring from the New York State and Local Employees' Retirement System (NYSLERS) to the New York State and Local Police and Fire Retirement System (NYSLPFRS) to receive past service credit for their prior service. This credit will be calculated using a salary multiplier and a billing rate multiplier, determined by actuaries from both retirement systems, and will not exceed the amount of service credited in NYSLERS, with a maximum of ten years of credit in NYSLPFRS. If a member later transfers back to NYSLERS, their full deputy sheriff service credit will be transferred back, and if they retire under an age-based plan in NYSLPFRS instead of a twenty or twenty-five year plan, they will receive the full amount of service credit earned. This legislation aims to ensure fair calculation of retirement benefits for these specific public servants.
