This bill amends a previous law establishing the Ridge volunteer exempt firefighter's benevolent association to change how it can use money collected from foreign fire insurance premium taxes. Specifically, it removes the restriction that these taxes could only be used for the care and relief of disabled or indigent volunteer and exempt firefighters and their families. Instead, the bill allows the association to use these funds for any purpose that furthers its overall objectives as outlined in section three of the original act. This change will apply to taxes collected on premiums received on or after January 1, 2027. Foreign fire insurance premium taxes are taxes imposed on insurance companies not based in the state for fire insurance policies covering property within a specific fire district.
