This bill amends a previous law establishing the Ridge volunteer exempt firefighter's benevolent association to change how it can use money collected from foreign fire insurance premium taxes. Specifically, it removes the restriction that these taxes could only be used for the care and relief of disabled or indigent volunteer and exempt firefighters and their families, and instead allows the corporation to use these funds for any of its purposes as outlined in section three of the act. This change will apply to taxes due on premiums received on or after January 1, 2027. Foreign fire insurance premium taxes are taxes collected on premiums paid for fire insurance policies issued by companies not based in the state, and these funds are typically designated for the benefit of local fire departments.
