Libraries must either adopt a model policy created by the state department or develop an equivalent policy that meets minimum standards. The bill also requires libraries to provide workplace violence prevention training to all employees upon hiring and annually, covering topics like de-escalation tactics, active shooter drills, emergency procedures, and the use of security devices. Additionally, libraries must install panic buttons in easily accessible locations that can immediately dispatch local law enforcement, and provide written policy and training information to employees in their primary language. The department will create model policy and training guidelines, evaluate the effectiveness of these measures every four years, and update them as needed.
