This bill amends the executive law to require designated parking spaces for Purple Heart recipients at state buildings and facilities managed by the Office of General Services. Under the proposed legislation, these special parking spaces must be located as close as reasonably possible to state agency buildings, with up to two spaces per facility. The spaces must be clearly marked with signs between five and seven feet high and can include special painted lines or markings, and may also be designated as tow-away zones. To use these parking spaces, individuals must have been awarded a Purple Heart and possess a special permit issued by the commissioner of motor vehicles. The parking spaces must conform to the dimensional standards established by the Americans with Disabilities Act. The bill will take effect 90 days after becoming law, providing a recognition and convenient parking benefit for military service members who have been wounded in combat and received the Purple Heart award.
