This bill modifies New York's education law to allow pharmacists to administer reversible progestin-only contraceptive injections under specific conditions. To administer these injections, pharmacists must have a certificate of administration and follow strict protocols, including obtaining a patient-specific prescription from a licensed prescriber, providing a private area for injection, and notifying the prescriber within five days about the administration, including any side effects or if the patient did not receive the injection. The prescription may be subject to periodic reassessment by the prescriber, and the pharmacist can only begin administering maintenance treatments after the patient has received the initial injection and been deemed eligible by the prescriber. The bill aims to expand access to contraceptive care by allowing trained pharmacists to provide this service, while ensuring patient safety and proper medical oversight. The law will take effect 180 days after it becomes law.
