Bill Summary
AN ACT IN THE COUNCIL OF THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA To amend, on a temporary basis, the Legalization of Marijuana for Medical Treatment Initiative of 1999 to extend the expiration dates of conditional licenses for medical cannabis cultivation centers, retailers, internet retailers, manufacturers, couriers, and testing laboratories for an additional year.
AI Summary
This bill amends the District of Columbia's medical cannabis licensing regulations by extending and modifying conditional licenses for various medical cannabis businesses, including cultivation centers, retailers, internet retailers, manufacturers, couriers, and testing laboratories. Specifically, the bill changes the duration of conditional licenses from 2 years to 3 years, allowing businesses that currently hold a one-year conditional license as of December 17, 2024, to automatically convert to a 3-year conditional license without additional cost or approval from the Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC) Board. The conversion will extend the license expiration to 2 years after the original conditional license was set to expire. The bill is a temporary amendment that will apply as of June 28, 2025, and will expire 225 days after taking effect, providing temporary relief and flexibility for medical cannabis businesses in the District of Columbia to maintain their operations under an extended licensing framework.
