This bill amends Florida's retirement system statutes to require that assistant regional counsel supervisors in each criminal conflict and civil regional counsel office become mandatory participants in the Senior Management Service Class (a specific tier of the Florida Retirement System) starting July 1, 2026. Currently, only appointed criminal conflict and civil regional counsel, assistant regional counsel chiefs, administrative directors, and chief investigators are required to participate in this retirement class. The bill also appropriates $950,000 in recurring funds from the General Revenue Fund for the 2026-2027 fiscal year to cover the retirement benefits for these newly included positions. Importantly, while members in this retirement class can purchase additional retroactive retirement credit for past service (back to October 2007), they cannot have their employer purchase this credit on their behalf. The legislation will take effect on July 1, 2026, giving state offices time to prepare for the expanded retirement class membership.
