This bill establishes a temporary licensure process for anesthesiologist assistants (AAs) in Florida, allowing recent graduates who have completed an approved AA program to obtain a short-term license while awaiting their certification exam results. To qualify, applicants must have graduated from an approved program, applied for the National Commission for Certification of Anesthesiologist Assistants exam, submitted a complete application with fees, passed a background screening, and have no disqualifying offenses. The temporary license will be valid for up to 180 days and is non-renewable, automatically expiring when the applicant either passes and receives a full license or fails the certification exam. Importantly, temporary licensees may only practice under the direct supervision of a licensed anesthesiologist who has filed a written protocol with the state department. The bill requires the Board of Medicine and Board of Osteopathic Medicine to develop specific rules for implementing this temporary licensure process, which aims to help qualified AA graduates begin their professional practice while completing final certification requirements.
