This bill allows the Department of Health to issue temporary licenses to practice as an anesthesiologist assistant (AA) to individuals who have graduated from an approved AA program, are awaiting the results of their certification exam administered by the National Commission for Certification of Anesthesiologist Assistants (NCCAA), have submitted a complete application and fees, have no grounds for license denial, and have passed a background screening. These temporary licenses will be valid for a maximum of 180 days, are nonrenewable, and will automatically expire once the applicant passes their certification exam and receives a full license or if they fail the exam. While holding a temporary license, an AA must practice under the direct supervision of a licensed anesthesiologist who has filed a written protocol with the department, and the Board of Medicine and Board of Osteopathic Medicine will create rules to implement these provisions.
