Bill Summary

Under current law, a school board must, as a condition of employment, require a physical examination of every individual employed by the school board who comes in contact with children or who handles or prepares food for children while they are under the supervision of school authorities. The physical examination must include a screening questionnaire for tuberculosis and, if indicated, a test to determine the presence or absence of tuberculosis in a communicable form. Currently, the physical examination must be performed by a physician, naturopathic doctor, physician assistant, or advanced practice nurse prescriber. Under this bill, the physical examination may also be performed by a chiropractor.

AI Summary

This bill modifies Wisconsin state law to expand the list of professionals who can conduct mandatory school employee health examinations by adding chiropractors to the existing group of authorized practitioners. Currently, school boards are required to obtain physical examinations for employees who interact with children or handle food, which must include a tuberculosis screening questionnaire and potentially a tuberculosis test. The existing law previously allowed only physicians, naturopathic doctors, physician assistants, or advanced practice nurse prescribers to perform these examinations. By adding chiropractors to the list of eligible practitioners, the bill provides schools with more flexibility in how they can fulfill the health examination requirement while maintaining the same standard of initial employee health screening. The modification is relatively straightforward, simply inserting "chiropractor" into the existing statutory language that defines who can perform these required health assessments.
