Bill Summary

Under current law, a school board must, as a condition of employment, require a physical examination of every individual employed by the school board who comes in contact with children or who handles or prepares food for children while they are under the supervision of school authorities. The physical examination must include a screening questionnaire for tuberculosis and, if indicated, a test to determine the presence or absence of tuberculosis in a communicable form. Currently, the physical examination must be performed by a physician, naturopathic doctor, physician assistant, or advanced practice nurse prescriber. Under this bill, the physical examination may also be performed by a chiropractor.

AI Summary

This bill modifies Wisconsin state law to expand the list of medical professionals authorized to perform mandatory physical examinations for school employees who work with children or handle food. Currently, these examinations can only be conducted by physicians, naturopathic doctors, physician assistants, or advanced practice nurse prescribers. The bill adds chiropractors to this list of qualified practitioners, which means school boards can now have chiropractors perform the required health screenings. These examinations include a tuberculosis screening questionnaire and potential tuberculosis testing if indicated. By broadening the range of medical professionals who can conduct these examinations, the bill aims to provide school districts with more flexibility in meeting their employee health screening requirements while maintaining the same standards of health assessment.
