Bill Summary
AN ACT IN THE COUNCIL OF THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA To amend, on a temporary basis, Chapter 10 of Title 47 of the District of Columbia Official Code to provide a property tax exemption for the property situated on Lot 0005, Square 3766 at 219 Riggs Road, NE.
AI Summary
This bill provides a temporary property tax exemption for the property located at 219 Riggs Road, NE (Lot 0005, Square 3766) owned by Food & Friends, Inc., a charitable organization. The bill amends the District of Columbia's tax code to exempt 97% of the property from taxation, while keeping 3% of the land in a taxable status. The exemption is conditional on Food & Friends, Inc. or its lessee continuing to use the property for charitable food distribution or related services. This tax relief is in addition to any other potential tax assistance the organization may receive. The property tax exemption will take effect on October 1, 2025, and will remain in place for 225 days after its implementation. The bill is designed to support the nonprofit's mission by reducing its property tax burden, thereby potentially allowing the organization to allocate more resources to its charitable food services.
