This bill establishes the Alzheimer's Disease Awareness Initiative, requiring the Department of Elderly Affairs to contract with a statewide nonprofit organization to develop and implement it, with the goal of providing greater support and validated information to residents affected by Alzheimer's disease and related dementias. The initiative must include a website and electronic resources covering topics like early detection, risk reduction, brain health, professional screening, healthy aging, research progress, clinical trials, and available community resources, and will also use the department's existing Alzheimer's Disease and Related Dementias Resource Guide. Additionally, the initiative will promote healthcare provider education in partnership with the Department of Health to improve care, utilize various advertising methods for public events, and include a mobile outreach program prioritizing underserved communities to provide information and referrals. The contracting nonprofit must have a history of focusing on Alzheimer's care and support, including online resources and community events, and possess the capacity to manage a statewide initiative. The Alzheimer's Disease Advisory Committee will annually evaluate the initiative's effectiveness and make funding recommendations to the department and the Legislature. This act will take effect on July 1, 2026.
