This bill establishes the Alzheimer's Disease Awareness Initiative, requiring the Department of Elderly Affairs to contract with a statewide nonprofit organization to develop and implement it, with the goal of providing residents affected by Alzheimer's disease and related dementias with information validated by national research. The initiative must include a website and electronic resources covering early detection, risk reduction, brain health, consulting healthcare providers, healthy aging, research updates, clinical trials, and community resources, and must also incorporate the department's existing Alzheimer's Disease and Related Dementias Resource Guide. Furthermore, the initiative will promote healthcare provider education in partnership with the Department of Health, utilize various advertising methods including social media, and implement a statewide mobile outreach program, particularly for underserved communities, to offer information on brain health, risk education, and early diagnosis, with the potential to provide referrals and information on available community resources. The contracting nonprofit organization must have a proven history of supporting those affected by Alzheimer's and related dementias and possess the capacity to manage a statewide initiative, collaborating with other relevant agencies and organizations. Finally, the Alzheimer's Disease Advisory Committee will annually assess the initiative and recommend future funding needs to the department and the Legislature.
