This bill requires the Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection (DATCP) to create and distribute stickers to be placed on gas pumps that clearly display both federal and state motor vehicle fuel tax rates per gallon for gasoline and diesel fuel. The stickers must be at least 3.5 inches on each side and positioned prominently on the face of the pump so consumers can easily see them. When inspectors and sealers conduct routine pump inspections, they will be responsible for affixing these tax rate stickers. If federal or state tax rates change, DATCP must produce and distribute updated stickers to ensure accurate information. Importantly, gas station owners and operators will not be held liable for placing or maintaining these stickers. The bill is scheduled to take effect on July 1, 2026, giving businesses and regulatory agencies time to prepare for implementation. The goal appears to be increasing transparency for consumers by making fuel tax rates more visible at the point of purchase.
