This bill modifies the Family Empowerment Scholarship Program by requiring private schools to provide more comprehensive written information to parents before a student's initial enrollment. Specifically, schools must now detail their academic programs, policies, code of conduct, attendance policies, and specialized services and therapies in writing. The bill introduces a new requirement that schools must inform parents within 30 days after receiving a district services plan about specific modifications, accommodations, and therapies that will be honored for students with individualized education plans (IEPs), education plans, English language learner plans, or 504 plans. Schools are allowed to update their specialized services information once per school year or when the school district updates its list of equitable services. If a private school fails to meet these requirements, the commissioner may determine that the school is ineligible to participate in the scholarship program. The changes are set to take effect on July 1, 2026, and aim to provide parents with more transparent and detailed information about the educational services available at participating private schools.
