This bill amends Michigan's school code to address situations where parents or legal guardians intentionally provide false information about their child's name, age, or residency when attempting to enroll the child in a school district where they do not reside. Under the proposed legislation, if a parent is found to have misrepresented such information for enrollment purposes, the child will only be eligible to attend the nonresident district through specific authorized mechanisms like interdistrict choice programs or cooperative agreements in the school year following the incident of false information. Importantly, the bill stipulates that the child cannot be removed from their current school during the same school year. The bill is tied to two other pending House Bills (5310 and 5312) and will only take effect if those companion bills are also enacted into law. Additionally, the bill repeals a previous section (Section 1812) of the revised school code.
