This bill, titled the "Strengthening Task Force Operations to Prevent Illicit Vapes Act" or "S.T.O.P. Illicit Vapes Act," establishes a federal multi-agency task force to combat the illegal importation, distribution, and sale of e-cigarettes, often referred to as vapes. This Task Force, which will be co-chaired by the Attorney General and the Secretary of Health and Human Services, will include representatives from various government agencies such as the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), U.S. Customs and Border Protection, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), and others involved in enforcement and public health. The Task Force's primary purpose is to create and implement a comprehensive strategy to reduce the number of unauthorized e-cigarettes on the market by setting goals, sharing information, and coordinating efforts. It is mandated to meet at least monthly and will submit semiannual reports to Congress detailing agency actions, recommendations for new authorities, and areas for improved collaboration. This Task Force will operate for 10 years from its establishment.
