This bill, known as the Strengthening Task Force Operations to Prevent Illicit Vapes Act (S.T.O.P. Illicit Vapes Act), establishes a federal multi-agency task force to combat the illegal importation, distribution, and sale of e-cigarettes, referred to as "unauthorized e-cigarettes" in the bill. This Task Force, which will be co-chaired by the Attorney General and the Secretary of Health and Human Services, will include representatives from various federal agencies such as the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), U.S. Customs and Border Protection, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), and others involved in enforcement related to e-cigarettes. The Task Force's purpose is to develop and implement a comprehensive strategy to reduce the number of unauthorized e-cigarettes on the market by setting goals, sharing information, and coordinating efforts. It is required to meet at least monthly and submit semiannual reports to Congress detailing agency actions, recommendations for new authorities, and areas for improvement in collaboration. The Task Force will operate for 10 years after its establishment.
