The bill also specifies that medically tailored meal vendors must adhere to a client's nutrition care plan, with menus reviewed and approved by a qualified medical professional, who is defined as someone credentialed to create nutrition plans for medical needs. Furthermore, all medically tailored meals must align with evidence-based nutritional guidelines for the condition, accommodate dietary needs, allergies, and cultural preferences, prioritize local, whole foods or from-scratch preparation, provide at least 500 calories or meet medically appropriate energy needs, and supply one-third of recommended carbohydrate and protein intakes unless otherwise permitted.
