This bill establishes new pathways for military health care personnel to gain civilian credentials more quickly by allowing Indiana institutions, such as state universities or non-profit colleges, to develop "academic career pathways" and "integrated academic bridge programs." These programs, designed to work with the U.S. Department of Defense's SkillBridge Program, will translate military training and experience in various health care roles, like combat medic or hospital corpsman, into civilian qualifications. Participating institutions must report annually to the legislative council on program effectiveness, including graduation and employment rates for military health care personnel, and coordinate with the U.S. Department of Labor and the Indiana Department of Veterans' Affairs to promote these pathways. The Indiana Professional Licensing Agency will also work with these institutions to incorporate these new pathways into their existing licensing requirements, aiming to reduce barriers for former military members entering the civilian health care workforce.
