This bill, effective July 1, 2026, creates a new legal pathway for victims to seek compensation when a defendant commits a new crime while out on bail, specifically targeting individuals who posted that bail but are not professional bondsmen or those with a defined "bailable interest" (such as the defendant's immediate family or employer). If such an individual posts bail and the defendant is later convicted of a crime committed while on bail, the victim of that new crime can sue the bail poster to recover damages for any property damage, injury, or death caused by the subsequent offense.
