This bill, known as "The Memphis Safe Task Force Accountability Act," requires the district attorney general in any judicial district where the Memphis Safe Task Force or a federal task force to combat violent crime is active to report specific actions taken regarding serious offenses that originated from these task forces. A "serious offense" is defined as a range of violent crimes, firearm offenses, felony drug offenses, sexual offenses, theft offenses, organized retail crime, sexual exploitation of a minor, RICO Act violations, or criminal gang offenses. The district attorney general must submit a monthly report to various state and federal officials, including the Attorney General and Reporter, the Speakers of the Senate and House, the District Attorneys General Conference, and the relevant U.S. Attorney, whenever they enter into a plea agreement, lower a charged offense, or dismiss or decline to prosecute such an offense. These reporting requirements apply to charges filed on or before June 30, 2028, and continue for actions related to charges filed by that date. A "federal task force to combat violent crime" is described as an ongoing U.S. Department of Justice mission involving federal, state, and local law enforcement to combat crime, while the "Memphis Safe Task Force" is defined as a federal task force specifically aimed at ending street and violent crime in Memphis through aggressive policing, prosecution, and investigations.
