This bill, known as the "Memphis Safe Task Force Accountability Act," requires the district attorney general in any judicial district where "Operation Viper" or the "Memphis Safe Task Force" is active to report specific actions taken regarding felony offenses that originated from these operations. The "Memphis Safe Task Force" is defined as a federal task force focused on reducing street and violent crime in Memphis through aggressive policing, prosecution, investigations, financial enforcement, and increased law enforcement presence in neighborhoods, working with state and local officials. "Operation Viper" is described as a federal Bureau of Investigation mission using federal, state, and local resources to combat crime. The district attorney general must submit a report within 24 hours to various officials, including the Attorney General and Reporter, legislative leaders, the district attorneys general conference, and the relevant U.S. Attorney, whenever they enter into a plea agreement, reduce a charged offense, dismiss a charge, or otherwise decide not to prosecute an offense stemming from these operations.
