This bill, concerning speed monitoring systems on Maryland Route 210 in Prince George's County, modifies existing law to allow for the suspension of vehicle registrations for unpaid speed camera tickets. Specifically, it clarifies that the Maryland Motor Vehicle Administration (MVA) can suspend a vehicle's registration if the owner or liable person fails to pay civil penalties or contest violations recorded by speed monitoring systems on this specific highway. This suspension can occur if there are at least three overdue citations within a 90-day period or if the total unpaid penalties reach $500. The MVA will notify the vehicle owner and provide an opportunity for a hearing, and registration can be reinstated upon payment of all overdue penalties, fees, and a $30 administrative fee to Prince George's County. The MVA is also required to report annually to the General Assembly on the actions taken under these provisions, starting December 1, 2026. The bill also updates existing law to explicitly state that the MVA may suspend registrations for violations recorded by speed monitoring systems on Maryland Route 210 as authorized and required by the new provisions. This Act is set to take effect on October 1, 2026.
