This bill, known as the "Safe Highways and Roads Enforcement (SHARE) Act," mandates that courts impose an additional fine on individuals convicted of moving traffic violations or driving under the influence of an intoxicant (DUI). For non-commercial vehicles, this additional fine is $25, and for commercial vehicles, it is $50, with these funds to be deposited into the state highway fund for road and infrastructure maintenance. Importantly, if a person is convicted of both DUI and a moving traffic violation, only the $100 DUI fine will be assessed, not both. A "moving traffic violation" refers to offenses that involve the movement of a vehicle, as defined by the driver improvement program rules, and DUI is the offense of operating a vehicle while impaired by alcohol or drugs. This act will take effect on July 1, 2026, and apply to offenses committed on or after that date.
