This bill allows municipalities that hold regular municipal elections in May to extend their early voting period, which is a process allowing registered voters to cast their ballots at designated polling places before election day. Currently, early voting for these municipal elections starts on the fourth calendar day before the election and ends on the second calendar day before. This bill, however, permits a municipality's governing body to pass an ordinance to extend this early voting period to begin as early as the eleventh calendar day before the election, while still ending on the second calendar day before. This change aims to provide voters with more flexibility in casting their ballots for local elections held in May.
