This bill allows municipalities that hold regular municipal elections in May, under the "Uniform Nonpartisan Elections Law," to opt-in to early voting for these elections. Currently, early voting for municipal elections in May starts on the 4th calendar day before the election. This bill amends that provision to allow a municipality, through an ordinance, to extend the start of the early voting period to the eighth calendar day before the election, while still ending on the second calendar day before the election. Early voting, a procedure allowing registered voters to cast ballots at specially designated polling places before election day, is already established for primary and general elections in New Jersey.
