Bill Summary

This bill prohibits automobile insurers from assigning an insured or prospective insured to a rating tier based upon that person's: (1) educational level; (2) employment, trade, business, occupation or profession; or (3) credit score, or any information derived from an insured's credit report. The bill also prohibits automobile insurers from inquiring of an insured or applicant for insurance, or of a third-party concerning an insured or applicant, as to these factors.

AI Summary

This bill prohibits automobile insurance companies from using a person's educational background, their job or profession, or their credit score (including any information from their credit report) to determine their insurance rates or assign them to a specific rating tier. It also prevents insurers from asking applicants or current policyholders, or anyone on their behalf, about these factors. This change aims to ensure that car insurance premiums are based more directly on driving behavior and less on personal characteristics that may not be directly related to driving risk.
