Bill Summary
This bill prohibits automobile insurers from assigning an insured or prospective insured to a rating tier based upon that person's: (1) educational level; (2) employment, trade, business, occupation or profession; or (3) credit score, or any information derived from an insured's credit report. The bill also prohibits automobile insurers from inquiring of an insured or applicant for insurance, or of a third-party concerning an insured or applicant, as to these factors.
AI Summary
This bill prohibits automobile insurance companies in New Jersey from using a person's educational background, their job or profession, or their credit score (or any information from a credit report) to determine their insurance rates or to decide whether to insure them. This means insurers can no longer assign you to a higher or lower price tier based on these factors, nor can they ask you or anyone else about them. The bill aims to ensure that car insurance pricing is based on factors directly related to driving risk, rather than personal characteristics or financial history.
