Bill Summary

This bill clarifies that agencies, entities and organizations that train and certify volunteer emergency medical technicians will be reimbursed for the cost of providing that training and certification to volunteer members of first aid and rescue squads, as well as to volunteer firefighters. Currently, any private agency, organization or entity that trains and tests members of volunteer ambulance, first aid and rescue squads seeking emergency medical technician certification or recertification may be reimbursed from the Emergency Medical Technician Training Fund. This bill provides that reimbursement will also be made when this training is provided to members of volunteer fire companies.

AI Summary

This bill expands the types of volunteer emergency responders whose training costs can be reimbursed from the Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Training Fund. Previously, this fund was available to reimburse agencies that trained and certified volunteer members of ambulance, first aid, and rescue squads for EMT-A (Emergency Medical Technician-Ambulance) and EMT-D (Emergency Medical Technician-Defibrillation) certifications. The bill amends existing law to include reimbursement for training and certification of volunteer firefighters, and also adds EMT-B (Emergency Medical Technician-Basic) certification and recertification to the list of reimbursable training. Furthermore, it clarifies that entities providing this training should not charge fees to these volunteer members, ensuring that the financial burden of essential training is covered by the fund.
