This bill mandates the removal of "double utility poles," which are defined as old or damaged poles still in use after a new replacement pole has been installed. Specifically, if an electric public utility, which is a company that provides electricity, identifies a double utility pole, it must notify the owners of any equipment attached to that old pole. These attachment owners then have 10 business days to remove their equipment from the double pole and inform the pole's owner that the removal is complete. Following this notification, the owner of the double utility pole has five business days to remove the entire old pole. The New Jersey Board of Public Utilities will create regulations to oversee this process, including how attachments are moved. This law will become effective six months after it is enacted.
